BeYOUtiful: Beauty from the Bible//Inner Beauty

Wednesday, February 26, 2014

What does beauty from the inside out look like?  True beauty?  It's perfectly illustrated in the Bible-

1 Peter 3:3-6
Don’t depend on things like fancy hairdos or gold jewelry or expensive clothes to make you look beautiful.  Be beautiful in your heart by being gentle and quiet. This kind of beauty will last, and God considers it very special. Long ago those women who worshiped God and put their hope in him made themselves beautiful by putting their husbands first. For example, Sarah obeyed Abraham and called him her master. You are her true children, if you do right and don’t let anything frighten you.

I think that this verse perfectly sums up my whole post in one paragraph, what's my point you ask?  True beauty is not on the outside, it is on the inside.  Now you might say, "Oh that's so sappy!  It's what you say to someone who is not very pretty!"  Which by the way, I don't think that person exists!  No!
I think inner beauty is important, and more importantly, God thinks inner beauty is important!  A friend of mine once said to "Shine so bright that all that others can see is the light of Jesus in you."  The most beautiful girl in the world could be a very mean girl in reality and who do you think people would rather be around?
You can't take your beauty into eternity, so why not work on a gentle and loving spirit here on earth.  You will reap the benefits in Heaven.  And honestly, the nice girls are the happy ones.  People would be more likely to like you as a nice girl than a really pretty one, and that's what this series is about, being both.  You can't truly be BeYOUtiful without the gentle and quiet Spirit that only Christ provides.  People will see you as the radiant person you are with Jesus' light in you.
I would say one thing though, that this part of being BeYOUtiful is worlds more important than outward beauty, but it's hard!  It's hard to be selfless for Jesus!  But what do you think is more rewarding in this life and the next.
Do you think you are more BeYOUtiful inside or out?
What does God say about inner beauty?
What do you feel needs to be quality in your life do you feel you need to work on to grow closer to God?
What can you do to develop that quality?
Do you have someone that can hold you accountable?
You don't need to tell me the answers to those questions, but talk to them about God and use that notebook I mentioned earlier!:)

  1. You are doing such a great job- not too long so people will have a chance to read and not too short to get such a great topic milled over.

I keep forgetting- I absolutely love your design on the date/post title!

So glad you got my note!

  5. Anon,
Yes I do wear minimal makeup. My goal in using it is not to cover up my beauty but to enhance it. Weight can be an all-consuming thing for some of us girls, but in light of eternity does it really matter? If you keep your body healthy with exercise and the right kind of foods, it will be much better for your body. But there is a fine line between too much and too little. My best advice is to do everything in moderation. If Jesus wanted to, He could change the way you looked in a blink of an eye, but He made you the way you are for a reason. When you have Jesus in your life, He won't change your looks, He will change your attitude. Wouldn't you agree that kind people generally seem more beautiful than the mean ones? But again, looks don't matter nearly as much as your attitude and where you are for eternity. Are you a Christian?

  8. It's fun to try and look good and feel good, but if it becomes an obsession, it is wrong. It becomes an idol before God. So I would say, if you are thinking about it a lot, that's a pretty good sign it's becoming an idol. Just let the little things go. Try to look nice, but don't try so hard too look perfect, because we'll never achieve perfection. Be comfortable in your own skin. Does that answer your question?

  10. It sounds like you are making your weight a little too important. To cry for not exercising, it shouldn't be that important. And don't get me wrong, I love exercise, it's a hobby of mine, but in the end, there is no "perfect" body, and God cares much more about the real you than your body, and I'm sure that those you care about do too!:)

I love all of your comments, but as your mom always said, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all!";)
