Chats on the Farmhouse Porch// Christmas is on it's Way

Saturday, December 7, 2013

Are you excited about Christmas?  I sure am!  You will notice that I've made some special Christmas/winter additions to my blog to get you in the spirit of the season.:)
I have a survey  for you to take if you would, please.:)  You can find it in the upper left corner of my blog.  It really helps me to know what I can do to improve this blog.

1. Please tell me the three most valuable things you learned as a child or young person.
Jesus loves me, the bible tells me so.;)  Use the resources God has given you to the best of your ability.  Always make your best effort to do good to others and be kind to them.

2. Did you participate in Black Friday or Cyber Monday?
I went Black Friday shopping for the first time ever this year.  Needless to say, it was an experience.  I did enjoy it, but I don't think I'll do it next year.
I just had to share, because it's so sad, but true

3. Do you pray?
     Yes.  Every day.

4. Have you been invited to any parties to celebrate Christmas or New Year?
I have been invited to some Christmas parties.  I actually wanted to have one of my own, but this time is so busy, it would be really hard to do.  Maybe a New Year's party?:)

5. Have you ever owned cowboy boots or a cowboy hat? (A cowboy? Tee-hee :) Just had to throw that one in for fun!)
Have I ever owned one?  No.  Have I ever worn a cowboy hat?  Yes.  Do lots of people in my area wear cowboy boots on a regular basis?  Yes.  I guess it's just something that seems normal to a rural girl like me.:)

Thanksgiving Chat

Wednesday, November 27, 2013

I haven't done a chat for a while, and this one has some fun Thanksgiving questions.  So I'm kinda excited!

1. If you are celebrating Thanksgiving, what are looking most forward to on Thursday?
I'm excited to spend time with family, eat good food, watch some football, and on friday, going Black Friday shopping for the first time evah!:)

2. My favorite Thanksgiving dish is my Grandma's ham.
This year though, my grandparents are coming to our house, and I'm looking forward to some new Thanksgiving foods (which I'm helping to make this year!).

3. Do you ever go through periods of time when you get hooked on a specific food?
Oh yes!  Right now I'm in love with Birthday Cake Oreos!  Yum!4. What's the best stuffing for a turkey?
I don't actually like turkey stuffing...5. When you were a child, were you ever in a Thanksgiving play, pageant, mock pilgrim dinner, or anything different to celebrate?
When I was in preschool, we had a thanksgiving feast and crafts.  We got to wear pilgrim hats or Indian headdresses.   I was an Indian:)

Don't forget that Thanksgiving is the last day to enter for the fashion show!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Chats on the Farmhouse Porch (4) I Think...

How many animals do you have?
Just one our dog named Cookie.  She's an 8 year old rat terrier and she's so cute!

Have you begun Christmas plans, travel, decorations, crafts, menu etc.?
     No I haven't.  I just can't believe it's only a few months away!

Do you celebrate harvest season or Halloween?
Well, we don't celebrate Halloween, but in past years we have gone trick-or-treating.  I did not start trick-or-treating until I was 9 because my parents wanted us to understand what Halloween was really about before we started to trick-or-treat.  Before that I always had fun giving candy to the kids who came to our door.

How do you heat you house?
With a heater.  Sometimes in the winter or fall, we'll get the fireplace going for fun.

Do you like dishes with white centers or centers with patterns?
It really just depends on the plate.

Please enter the fashion show!!!!  I am so anxious for it to start!  Check it out on this post!

Chats on the Farmhouse Porch (3)

When you pass the salt, do you automatically send the pepper with it?
No I don't only if they ask.

How many fingers do you usually type with?
     Typically 8.  I know, I cheat.;)

Do you keep interesting coins when you run across them?
     Absolutely!

Did you enjoy September, or did it fly by too quickly?
I actually thought September was a rather long month.  I have a lot of fun stuff in October, so it just felt long I guess.

If I could _________, I'd get more done each day.
Exercise.     I just hate it.  And then when you're done, you're all sweaty so you have to take a shower.  I find that I slack off a lot in that area.

Please enter in the Fashion show!  I'm super excited and would hate to have to wait long.  So far we have only one entrant.

How well do you handle change?
Depends on what kind of change.  If it's a negative change to something familiar that I love, I don't handle it very well, if it's positive, I handle positively.  It kind of depends on the situation.
For instance, where I live, there is farmland all around.  At this time of year, you go down the highway and are surrounded by corn.  I love it!  But, about a year or two ago, a company started to build windmills on the farmland, and I disliked it A LOT!
They had permission to do what they were doing, but I didn't like it.  I didn't want to see that beautiful farmland change.  I loved driving on the highway at night.  Peaceful, making you proud to be rural girl.  But along with the windmills came ugly flashing red lights so that planes wouldn't hit them.  UGH!
It's just something we can't change but have to live with.  God knew it would be for our good, so we must trust that.  Okay... I'll step off of my soapbox now...;)
What did you have for breakfast this morning?
I had branflakes with milk.  Not a very tasty or exciting breakfast, but It's a great way to save on calories!
What's your favorite kind of nut? (Almond, pecan, peanut, walnut, cashews, macadamia, brazil, etc)
     Factoid- I don't like nuts.:)
Do you have a pumpkin in your house or yard?
No, we have never grown any.  We'll probably get some for fall decoration though. FALL!!!!!
Would you like it if I changed the format of these Chats? What do you think would be good? Would you enjoy fill in the blanks, one big topic to discuss, or something else?
I love the way she does these chats!  Please don't change anything (referring back to question 1, sorta punnie, but not really)!

I better leave before I start making puns and- WHOOPS!  I just did!:)

Chats on the Farmhouse Porch

Tuesday, September 17, 2013

Today I want to try something new.  Every week a new Chats on the Farmhouse Porch post is made at Every Day Rurality.  I'm a rural girl from a town of 2,800, and thought this might be perfect.

QUESTIONS
What's  the one thing you feel is the biggest waste of  your time during an average week?
I don't know...SCHOOL!  I'm sorry but does anyone else feel that way?;)
When was the last time you baked a pie?
I actually have never baked a pie, but just thinking about it makes me really want to!
What do you want to spend time doing that you aren't right now?
I'm pretty content right now.  I would love to be with friends though... probably shopping.;)
What do you do with old clothes?
My mom sells a lot of them at garage sales, or gives them away.
If we were having lunch on the porch today, what would you bring for the potluck styled lunch?
Probably cookies.  Because when I make them, I get to eat the cookie dough!  AWESOME!!!!
